Four Active Mining Companies You Should Be Watching

The mining industry has been very busy over the last few months with the gold price showing signs of stabilizing, financings getting completed, preliminary economic assessments being released, prefeasibility studies being updated and M&A activity increasing. The market has a buzz once again and Thibaut Lepouttre of Caesars Report profiles several companies that are reaping the rewards of being very active right now. The Gold Report: Falco Resources Ltd. (FPC:TSX.V) has released its maiden preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on the Horne 5 mine. The market rewarded the company with a share price that almost doubled in the next few days and weeks. What’s the reason behind this? Thibaut Lepouttre: This PEA had been anticipated for quite a while, and Falco’s shareholders were really looking forward to seeing the economics of the project after an updated resource estimate showed a total of 6.6 million ounces gold equivalent (Au eq), with the majority in the Indicated resource category. There was a little bit of a headwind from people who weren’t convinced an underground mine with an average grade of less than 3 grams per tonne Au eq would work in the current commodity price environment, so quite a few investors were holding off on making an investment decision until after the PEA. “Falco Resources Ltd.’s PEA shows all-in sustaining costs of less than $450/oz.” Falco’s PEA showed an after-tax NPV5% of CA$667 million (CA$667M) and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 16% based on an average production rate of 236,000 ounces … Continue reading

These Crisis Markets Are Primed to Deliver Big Gains

These Crisis Markets Are Primed to Deliver Big Gains By Justin Spittler Editor’s note: Today, we’re continuing our conversation with Crisis Investing editor Nick Giambruno. Yesterday, Nick explained the ins and outs of crisis investing…and what he looks for in a good crisis investment. In part two, Nick shares two key markets he’s keeping an eye on today… J. Spittler, editor of The Daily Dispatch: What are some of your most successful crisis investments? Nick Giambruno: In 2013, the tiny European island of Cyprus had a banking crisis. Its stock market plunged 98%. It was one of the most significant financial crises in recent memory. So Doug Casey and I packed our suitcases and boarded a plane for Cyprus. We put our “boots to the ground” and looked through the rubble for incredible bargains. At the time, there were sound, productive, and well-run businesses in Cyprus making money and paying dividends. Some of these companies were trading for less than 50% of their book value…literally pennies on the dollar. We recommended eight Cypriot stocks to our readers. One was a resort company that operates luxurious beachfront hotels in Cyprus. We made a 210% gain on that one. We booked a 170% gain on a technology company. We also recommended two consumer goods companies. One of those doubled. The other nearly doubled. We’ve also had success recently. This month, we locked in a 103% gain on a beaten-up gold stock. I expect other stocks in the Crisis Investing portfolio to deliver … Continue reading

Many of the World’s Best Investors Made Their Fortunes This Way…And You Can Too

Many of the World’s Best Investors Made Their Fortunes This Way…And You Can Too By Justin Spittler Editor’s note: Today and tomorrow, we’re stepping away from our usual market commentary to share a very important idea with you… Below, you’ll read our interview with Nick Giambruno, editor of Crisis Investing. In it, Nick breaks down his successful investing system—what he calls “the most powerful wealth building secret in investing.” You can start putting this strategy to work yourself by joining Nick’s service (more details at the end of today’s piece)… J. Spittler, editor of Casey Daily Dispatch: Nick, your advisory is called Crisis Investing. Could you explain what “crisis investing” is? Nick Giambruno: Crisis investing is basically buying elite companies in beaten-up countries or industries. When there’s a crisis, most people only see danger. But it’s actually an opportunity. A crisis often allows you to buy a dollar’s worth of assets for a dime…or less. Many of the world’s greatest investors have made their fortunes this way…but anyone can do it. You don’t need be rich or well-connected. You don’t even need to travel to do it. In fact, if you have a regular brokerage account—and the courage to buy when others are fearful—you’re all set. The courage part is key. You can’t be a successful crisis investor if you’re not willing to go against the crowd. Baron Rothschild was correct when he said “the time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets.” Warren Buffett struck a similar … Continue reading

What Recent Moves in the US Dollar Mean for Gold

Technical analyst Jack Chan offers an interpretation of the correction in progress in the gold sector. Gold stocks remain on short term sell signal, and if we are in a bull market, prices should find support at the 200ema, which may be an excellent entry. The divergence as noted in the last report has resulted in lower prices in both gold and gold stocks. SLV – we took profits on our short position and will wait for a new set up. With one session left in the month, the US Dollar (USD) bounced off the lower trading range of this over a year-long consolidation with an outside reversal monthly candlestick, which suggests that the correction is complete and more strength ahead in coming months. A rising dollar is not friendly to the metals. Summary A correction is in progress in the gold sector, while the cycle has just turned down recently. Expect lower prices overall until the cycle bottoms and COT data becomes favorable. Jack Chan is the editor of Simply Profits, established in 2006. Jack bought his first mining stock, Hoko Exploration, in 1979, and has been active in the markets for the past 37 years. Technical analysis has helped him filter out the noise and focus on the when—and leave the why to the fundamental analysts. His proprietary trading models have enabled him to identify the NASDAQ top in 2000, the new gold bull market in 2001, the stock market top in 2007, and the US dollar bottom … Continue reading

The Numbers Add Up to Vindication for a Cautious Gold Bull. . .

Precious metals expert Michael Ballanger discusses the importance of caution and timing in gold investment. Back in early March, with the HUI screaming along north of 150, I published “Patiently Climbing Aboard the New Golden Bull,” in which I opined that we had entered a brand-spanking-new bull market in precious metals and related equities. But I also noted that, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) above 85 on the daily SPDR Gold Trust ETF (GLD) and approaching 80 on the daily NYSE.Arca Gold BUGS Index (HUI), the short-term outlook was less than appealing, while the intermediate and long-term outlook was unequivocally bullish for the first time in five long years. When that report went out, the next ten days was spent fending off a barrage of nasty, spiteful emails as to why the commercials no longer mattered and why the COT was a “useless tool” (“just like the author of that report”). In fact, for the next two months the COT continued to erode, with prices of gold and silver elevating modestly and with the miners going literally “vertical” as the number of “ha-ha” emails was directly proportionate to the move in the HUI. It got to the point where I was sledge hammering the liquor cabinet before lunchtime. However, as is usually the case, the COT, while failing as a timing tool, proved to be a valuable directional indicator and gold and the miners have finally rolled over, offering me vindication (of sorts) and a chance to cover the … Continue reading
